The American International School of Lesotho (AISL), celebrated its first year of operation at the start of the 1991-1992 school year. The school began as a one building campus in Maseru West, and is now situated in central Maseru next to the United Nations offices.
AISL is a non-profit, independent coeducational day school which offers an American style educational programme to students from Preschool (age 3) through Grade 8. AISL serves the needs of the local and international community who seek an American style education delivered in English. The school year is divided into 3 trimesters extending from August to November, December to March and March to mid-June.
Having an internationally recognised accreditation for the school is important. AISL is accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) based in the United States. We perform a self study reflection on our practices and resources, and are then rated against international standards. This way, AISL can be compared with other accredited schools around the world. Our next MSA visit will be approximately 2030.
AISL is also a proud member of the Association of International Schools of Africa (AISA), and is supported by the United States Department of State and the Office of Overseas Schools.
AISL is a small, but mighty caring community school that is dedicated to academic excellence, and social, physical and personal development of our students. We are a multi-national school that honors and values Lesotho, and celebrates our diverse cultural representation, which makes us unique.
“Our school is small and diverse in its student and teaching population.”
